PPU .44 brass

#1 Post by Keithkilvo1 »

I have a load of PPU brass in .44 but I find huge inconsistencies in the quality. Half of it would not go into the shellholder in my press and then the half that did seem to be 'oversized' as in the bullet would literally fall into the case after it had been resized.
Not sure if it's a bad batch or has anyone had similar experiences

I’ve had similar experiences with some of their 7x57 with some cases being a real struggle to place into the shell holder so you’re not alone. To be fair it’s cheap and cheerful ammo, I tend to buy it as a stand by in case I’m short on reloading time. If you’re after good quality brass then a treat of some Norma, Lapua or Winchester would be the way to go, it will serve you well if looked after.

For pistol brass stick with Starline, I tried some PPU from Kranks and had them splitting after a couple of loadings (nothing hot).

The Starline I'm currently using has seen over 100 loadings and I've only had to replace 4 cases.

same as phaedra, starline all the way, I sold off all my ppu and mixed headstamps. including norma and winchester for 44mag.

for 44 spl I only have starline and CBC (magtech)

Lapua I think would be money wasted... starline seems to last dozens of loadings as it is. I lose more in the grass than I have had split/fail

No Keith don't get starline it's hard enough sorting out who's brass is who's when picking up after a detail.I use starline without complaint and haven't heard anything from other's that use it other than me pocketing their empties. :p

To be fair it was bought in desperation when I couldn't get anything else locally. I mainly use Starline and CBC which are serving me well, the main reason for the post was to see what others had experienced.
The one thing I have found is my groups seem better with the PPU so I do use it for the precision where I load one at a time......but that might be just in my head helpsign helpsign

Where most of your consistency comes from.

Doesn't matter if good groups come from your head or from the sights or even the rifle/ammo combination, it's there so keep it whatever it is.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Been using PPU .44 mag cases for the last 10yrs and to be honest had very few issues with them - low loads (7 grains Unique).
