Probably because it wasn't adopted by any European Armies because they already had suitable cartridges.meles meles wrote:Ooh, it seems we is ! Why didn't that cartridge catch on in Europe ?

Rimmed cartridges can, if carelessly loaded, lock together and jam. Also, they would require a new bolt face and extractor for our DTA...

So load correctly then!......I load my 54r Mosin stripper clips using the correct technique and don't have a rim lock problem.meles meles wrote:"You still haven't explained what you see as rim problems."

If it locks due to "careless loading" that's operator error, not a fault of the cartridge.

I'd have thought that as a battle rifle cartridge, anything in the design that can lead to operator error is a significant issue given!

Sorry for the extra given. I can no longer edit posts in "An application".
Please re-use the spare given in another post.

It would appear that the British Tommy and Russian Ivan didn't have much problem over the years!, and a lot of .303 and 54r still being used in combat around the world.safetyfirst wrote:I'd have thought that as a battle rifle cartridge, anything in the design that can lead to operator error is a significant issue given!

Oh I'm sure our lads had a jam from time to time that could have been avoided....

It obviously was not a problem or they would have changed it.
It went a long way to helping us win two world wars so history contradicts your view.
I see plenty of jams with rimless cartridges so an non issue.
For automatic firearms design I can see some benefit in the rimless cartridge.
