So I went ahead and ordered the trigger. I received it yesterday and fitted to my rifle which took ten minutes including the removal of my rifle from the chassis. However, when I tried the trigger out I couldn't feel the first stage, only the second stage. The trigger arrived at 8oz first stage, 16oz second stage which is quite light compared to the >2lb trigger pulls I have on my current rifles. The written instructions provided state not to touch the sear engagement screw (rear of trigger) and that you can adjust trigger pull with the front screw on the bottom. So I tried adjusting the trigger pull screw but that only seemed to change the second stage, no effect on the first stage. I sent an e-mail to Timney tech support to try and resolve the issue.
Surprisingly, the instructions are wrong because the sear engagement screw isn't as per the supplied diagram, it's actually the front top screw. The rear screw adjusts the first stage trigger pull and the front bottom screw adjusts the second stage trigger pull.
You can only adjust the first and second stage so far. My trigger pull gauge hasn't arrived yet so it's currently set up on "feel" compared to other triggers that I used. The first stage can only be adjusted so much until the transition to the second stage feels "gritty" so I just backed off a small amount until I met the solid "wall" of the second stage. The second stage only requires a slightly higher amount of force until it breaks nice and clean.
All that's left now is to try it out at the range!
It's a shame such a nice trigger is let down by the poor instructions. Hopefully, others who are in the same predicament to me can find this post and will help them out.
