The .30-30 is a great cartridge and I've been shooting one for a couple of decades now from anything between 25 and 300 yards. Cast bullets and either Unique or Trail Boss for a gallery load and full power SJFP for longer.

There's no need for FMJ. Guidance on Firearms Law states that flat point expanding ammunition falls into s1 when used in order to prevent a tubular magazine detonation. It's been like this for 15 years.

Privi makes some reasonably priced factory ammo, but it's hot. It didn't shoot that well in either of my 30-30s. But the brass is very good.

3.21 Category (xv) refers to ammunition incorporating a projectile that is designed or adapted to expand in a controlled manner. It is the kind of ammunition used in deerstalking and vermin control because it is more likely than non-expanding ammunition to ensure a quick and humane kill. Semi-jacketed soft point and hollow point are typical forms of expanding ammunition, but care must be taken to distinguish between match target hollow point ammunition, which has a tiny hole at the front for manufacturing purposes, and true hollow point. Match hollow point rounds which are not designed to expand upon impact, such as the Sierra Match King and the Hornady A-Max, are not prohibited. Flat-nosed bullets, which are designed to prevent a magazine explosion caused, by a pointed bullet resting on the primer of the cartridge ahead of it when the ammunition is used in a tubular magazine are also not prohibited. All bullets will distort on impact, but only those which were designed or adapted to do so in a predictable manner fit this category.

You can shoot cast in this fine cartridge easily out to 300 yrds.

sweet, there is ammo is in the usa called leverevolution by Hornady speciafully designed for lever actions but no doubt you cant get them here

Yes you can. Made by Hornady. The bullets are also available. It was this ammo that prompted Marlin to introduce the XLR variants of the 336 and 1895. They are expensive though. But, as said, no need for them unless you want a premium hunting bullet. There's plenty of other stuff about.

I have some 147gn FMJ and tracer bullets that load nicely in to the 30-30 cartridge but only for single feeding. Great out to 500yds from an old Winchester and great on ETR.
150gn Lead FP gas checked for up to 300yds.

H and N high speed copper plated bullets 165 gn TC....308 great for the lever actions, cost less than cast. Good to 2000 fps.
