Get yourself down to Pets at Home and buy some of the aquarium "sand". I use the black sand. It isin't sand, but really small stone by the looks of it. Fills well and is surprisingly heavy. Not as cheap as rice though or chips come to think of it. :flag6:

Same here sort of, I bought a big bag of the multi coloured small stones that go in the bottom of aquariums/vivariums.
Been fine for 3+years now in my current 3 bags

Small plastic beads, they are light and allow the bag to be readily squeezed for elevation changes.

I'm thinking of changing over to plastic beads, I currently use rice but daren't risk the bag in the rain.

How many kilos does it take to fill something like a Caldwell front bag?

I did use sand but it kept leaking out the seams. So I collected a load of .22LR cases for the new bag.
Ordered an 'empty' one but it came pre-filled with tumble media :)
Seems to work well and hasn't gone mouldy yet.

Just filled one with tumbling media (walnut lizard bedding) really pleased with how it feels and the weight, so would recommend it!
