The fact is, polemass' mate was in beach of French law. The PAF/Douane were actually very lenient as opposed to heavy handed. They should have locked him up. Likewise, many EU citizens are dealt with similarly when after being in the UK on business or vacation, they are found to be in possession of CS sprays when leaving the country. These are available all over the continent available from all good hardware stores and supermarkets. They are s5 here.

Shipping by post would have been far easier, with far less risk. If you are going to take anything remotely weapon related across Europe, make yourself aware of the law, in every European country you cross, for however short a time.

One of the reasons for my anti-EU stance. They want to force me to buy my fruit and veg in kilos, abide by their "human/criminal rights" but then don't extend everything across every country. If they did, I'd have a cabinet full of pistols and semi CF and perhaps the odd full auto...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Help in what? Understanding what happened? I think you know that now. Or help in getting your gear back? I imagine that's now destroyed and unlikely you'd have got it back anyway. Or help in breaking French law again? You got away with it before, your "friend" almost paid the price this time. Slanters? No, we're just trying to help you not make the same mistake again.

French lawyers are some of the slowest, but possibly most expensive in the world. You'd do well to remember that.... 8-)

What it boils down to is it should have been done by post, then there would have next to no issues and no one would have batted an eyelid or if they had, it would have resulted in less trouble. France is a bureaucratic nightmare and always has been, no sense trying to make any sense now.
