Steyr SSG 69

#1 Post by DOGGER2UK »

I own a Steyr SSG 69 with a ZFM 6 x 42 Z scope in the Steyr quick release mounts.
The ZFM scope is made by Swarovski as opposed to the Kahles ZF 95 6 x 42 more usually supplied with the rifle. To all intents and proposes these scopes appear to be identical.

These scopes use ballistic cams with the elevation turret numbered in hectometres from 1 to 8.
Kahles supply a range of ballistic cams for the ZF 95 in 7 different bullet types in .308 Win.

What I want to know (before emailing Swarovski & Kahles) is has anyone here used the replacement cams and are the Kahles cams interchangeable with the Swarovski cams?
My guess is that they are. Anyone?

I'd be very surprised if the cams were interchangeable...two different makers & all.

I was thinking along the lines that Steyr ordered the same scope from different manufacturers, made to a specification with interchangeable components.

The only way that'd be likely is if Steyr paid for identical tooling, machinery, etc. to be installed at both factories

Even then I'd be surprised if they persuaded both firms to make an identical product

yes they are and yes I have . I own both scopes and the cam components ate the same , they were apparently made in the same factory and badge engineered for a while until the two arms of the company separated again . I have one on my M82 Parker -Hale sniper and a spare with different cams - 147gr NATO and 168gr NATO .Cams were available for 55gr 5.56 NATO as well . I spoke to Kahles to get the bits although it's a good few years ago.

There might be a downside to this if you deal with the UK, when I spoke to Swarovski UK about bikini caps for the ZFM they denied all knowledge of the 'scope and assured me they had never built such a thing so Germany is probably a better option..
