On another note reference CSR , would I be able to shoot CSR with my 308 with 10rd AICS mags or my Sako 75 in 223(both scoped) with detachable mags or do I need a straight pull black rifle? I understand that I may be at a disadvantage but it does sound like the sort of comp I want to try?
Both would be suitable.
You could shoot a P14 in Historic Class (that is the normal League amd Imperial Class where you are shooting the same matches as SO and PO) but you would be at a significat disadvantage.
Amen to that, and I cheated with spare mags.
You dont get any longer exposure wise in CSR than anyone else, and the AR straightpulls cycle quick as and are much quicker on target, irons or optics. The CSR AR is a compact little piece and that in itself can create a challenge.
I really enjoyed the No4 shooting CSR, then looked at the round count and how few were shooting them and joined the mainstream SO lot. After F class it has taught/reminded me (thats the really embarassing bit) a hell of a lot.
One missfeed even with a 10 round mag and you are stuffed, and not shooting the full practice was fairly common for me.
Still got to love the No4 though, it is a genuine service rifle and deserves to be used, and shooting it well is a real challenge many dont even want to try....no bipod, no bag, no sub half minute accuracy....

I guess the reason the NRA did this was to rationalise. I cannot speak of what John says as I was not there, but there do seem to be a lot of the "Peoples judean front" and "Peoples popular front of judea" springing up to create new and minority classes.
The phoenix is a case in point. Loads or classes, probably too many to count and administer for.
This is a good thing because it opens up the field to all/most (CSR does this in a way) but it also causes a lot of admin headaches I would think.
If you try to simplify things, folk will just cry foul and either (right or wrong) vote with their feet, or create an action group!! Difficult
