Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
You certainly can have no knowledge of firearms and get one over here, but mostly, our system does ensure some modicum of knowledge.
The USA does have a lot of training courses, and I applaud those who take them; some level of compulsory training would be sensible I think. However, the fundamental difference is that the USA doesn't have such a morbid fear of firearms as the UK, so it's much easier to have a sensible discussion. UKIP's policy is about as much as you could possibly get here.

This Telegraph article from January 2014. Apologies if it has been posted before. The results of the Poll might surprise some.

From linked article:
Sounds pretty unequivocal to me.The Ukip leader has said it is party policy for hand guns to be legalised and licensed in the UK despite being banned in the UK for the last 18 years.
Mr Farage said the current ban on the guns, which were made illegal following the school shooting at Dunblane in 1996, was “ludicrous.”
Speaking on LBC Radio Mr Farage said that it was Ukip policy to create a “proper licensing policy” and that people who kept hand guns responsibility locked up and had were willing to get an official licence should “absolutely” be allowed them.
Poll results.

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
Yet again it is hand guns that are mentioned, makes me wonder if UKIP is aware of any other kind or if they indeed have a party policy covering other sorts?
Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
It seems they're happy with the current system for firearms, if they do get power it would be interesting to see how that evolves once they realise the minefield it is
Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
I interpret their comments as 'no change, but we will bring back handguns'. So for me that will do nicely.
Existing legislation is too complex I agree but the system it works out to is OK. Efficiency of execution would mean it's fine.
For example, computerise the lot, and probably automate a 1-for-1 variation. Would save a lot of time and make life easier.

Re: UKIP Firearms Policy
I'd sooner have semi-auto back (which would also be far, far easier to get through Parliament than handguns).

Already in place in Northern Ireland. For example, computerise the lot, and probably automate a 1-for-1 variation. Would save a lot of time and make life easier.
Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 20111. Section 103 of the Act was commenced on 1 December 2011. The provision allows a firearms dealer to vary a FAC when one firearm is exchanged for another of the same type and calibre.
