Thanks guys,it seems the hollow point will do fine and stay within the law.
ROBIN,,,, I have 2 litre bottle of Vit 540 which I shall try if I get the variation for a target rifle
I hope to obtain, Presently I am using Vit N140 which I find very good in my 700

I have always used N140 , could someone explain the advantage of N540 as I havent heard of it before .

I chose N540 'cos the Sierra reloading manual, 5th ed reckoned that for 175gn MatchKing it was top accuracy load...in a 26" 1:10 barrel (Savage). 2400 ft per sec 2302 ft lbs.

I use N140 for short range - up to 600yds - and N540 for long range - up to 1200 yds. I found the 140 wasn't holding the tight group I wanted at 1100 & 1200 and it's marginally better at 1000. However that was using 155grn in my 308. I'm about to re-barrel and that will be able to take 168's & 175's so will have to see if the 140 works better with those.

Apparently the 540 burns more consistently and gives higher pressure so bullet goes further but stays tightly grouped. Whatever the reason, I found it works. :)
