The reason the REP jumped, was simply down to the African alert rota, which is split between the 2 REP, 3 & 7 RPima and now 1 RCP. To be correct the 1st unit to jump on Kolwesy was the 13 RDP one wekk prior.
Granted. Sarko is a lackey & probably deserves to be hang from a lamp post for joining Nato ...
ISAF was "officially" a UN mission but will probably go down in history as a Western but mainly as a US defeat. Yes France took part in it, but out of choice, as an sovereign nation not because the Washington dude said so and the Prime minister, as for the last 40 years, just took its orders ...
a) the overwhelming majority of officers are French out of St Cyr,
Never said otherwise, I stated that 10% of Legion Officers are from the ranks therefore your statement of "led by French Officers" is debatable because at that period in time discussed, French citizens could not join unless they did so with forged documents stating they were not French
b) The vast majority of Swiss and Belgium legionnaires have never set foot there,
I never mentioned nationality of those chosen from the ranks to attend officer training, so where does that come from? As I said 10% of Legion Officers come from the ranks and they aren't all French.
c) the majority of NCO are French,
Not true, The NCO's of the Foreign Legion like most professional military bodies are promoted on merit and not nationality. Only 25% of legionnaires will become the Non-Commissioned Officers. All NCOs in the Legion start as simple legionnaires. Now unless the majority of the Legionnaires today are French what you say is wrong unless the French are stacking the NCO cadres with Frenchmen which I doubt very much given the Legions long and proud traditions as well as their professionalism.
10% of Legion Officers started their career as simple legionnaires and work up through the ranks as long as they have attained the rank of Sergeant or above and have a university degree. Believe it or not Froggy there are guys in the Legion today who had degrees when they joined.
ISAF was "officially" a UN mission but will probably go down in history as a Western but mainly as a US defeat.
No, ISAF is a
NATO mission tasked with UN approval and NATO is commanded by an American. But hey Western or US defeat, France is a part of that defeat mate and the French still took their orders from the yanks both as ISAF troops and Enduring Freedom troops so bang goes your theory of "we don't take orders from the yanks.
Granted. Sarko is a lackey & probably deserves to be hang from a lamp post for joining Nato ...
Hey mate no one forced France to rejoin NATO at the Strasbourg/Kehl Summit and they are free to leave any time they want. Be a pity if they do though given the professionalism of their Armed Forces, especially the men of the Foreign Legion.
