Use of electronic targetry on MOD ranges now banned

I'm sure there are many divmil and divciv. As you say running an ETR will be conducted by someone who is correctly trained.
The fact that civilians have assisted in the test and evaluation of the new system with Lockheed Martin and been given ammunition to do so should say a lot about how we as recreational shooters can assist and support our military. I find it offensive to be told that I am stupid and cannot operate some new technology that others have tested and helped to function properly.

Hand the training out to the clubs and lets get on with shooting.

Are you being sarcastic? Why would training civies to use targetry by difficult?

Wathgill 6c is a electronic target range at Catterick.
For the last two years my main club has used this range a lot. We got fed up with the electronic targets not working. One of our members supported by the club trained to calibrate and set up the monitors and Targetry. He wrote a manual and issued it to the club members it is still in my shooting bag so I could plug in the monitor set it up for the distance I was shooting at and if any thing went wrong trouble shoot the system.
We gave up our own time and spent a week end on the range setting it up so every thing worked. The military benefited from our efforts. We are no longer allowed to use the range but if they want the electronic targets sorting out any body in my club can do it.

Yes it is tackb. We have helped in the development of the entire system, only to be told that we are now not capable of using the thing.

I find the whole proposition a complete joke, from the, we are privileged to use the MOD ranges nonsense (why do they rent them out then?). When I rent something I expect it to perform as advertised......
To the absolute bo...cks talked about electronic targetry not being part of NRA at Bisley or their CoF. Or my ability to learn and work the thing.

Either the MOD intend to alienate civilian shooter from their ranges or they don't. Lets have a comment from the horses mouth rather than waiting for the NRA to read the tea leafs from the horses arse. Its been 12+ months already

We are not plebs we are by and large intelligent people who do a variety of challenging jobs and I'm sure we are capable of operating this system with a little training? Probably less training than your average soldier ?

Read what you have written again there friend and figure out why I think that statement stinks. Not very condescending at all is it? Your average soldier these days given the technology they have grown up with is no less capable of running an ETR than any non "pleb" RCO. In fact they'll probably take to it easier than a lot of the older sportsmen out there.

The problem is you didn't think. I also wrote that it's usually Senior Ranks or Warrant Officers that run the ETR but it's not always the case, I've seen Lance Corporals and Corporals running an ETR as well, the same average squaddies that is, and doing it professionally and proficiently.

Now un bunch your panties (I really didn't mean to offend you) and maybe comment on the rest of my post ?

Then don't generalize and we'll get along just fine. As to the rest of your post, I agree but somehow I can't see the MoD letting civilians play with their new expensive training aids, I do hope I'm wrong for the sake of all the UK shooting sportsmen and women.

This is wrong on every level. I would like to see what Ian has to say about this, given he maintains that the NRA has had no involvement to date. But have been at meetings regarding this problem from the get go. Can we please get an honest answer Ian?
