Fair comment but you have to understand that change hasn't just happen through the courts and by quoting the 2nd Amendment. It's also happen through the power of the ballot box. Getting rid of the anti politicians with their draconian laws and replacing them with politicians who have repealed those laws. As I stated earlier, I've seen it happen.

Where I live, up until 11 years ago it was illegal for anyone to use a firearm to defend themselves in their home or on the street. Through people power and the ballot box, that changed.

I think it's helpful to categorise who in the shooting community we would need to win over, in order to support such an effort. Would I be correct in assuming we have the following 3 categories?

1) Those who had their pistols taken from them and were forced to move in to other disciplines. I assume they're still resentful and feel there's little merit in dredging up bad memories, when the prospect of a successful campaign is seen as little to non. i.e. Let sleeping dogs lie.

2) Those that feel it's an unnecessary risk to the public because they're easily concealed.

3) Those that have no interest in supporting anything outside their own discipline.

If that's an exhaustive list, what percentage would you attribute to each?

If the money is there to do this long term, you put it to the top of the agenda. And we do have our bill of rights which could be used in a legal battle.

It is not impossible. It just needs a kind and generous billionaire. Know you of such a beast?

Well, that's not strictly true.

Northern Ireland has cartridge handguns on S1. Other parts of Great Britain such as the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man also still have cartridge pistols on S1. On the mainland we still have muzzle loaders which are handguns and you can own S7.1 at home without ammo and keep S7.3 at a "Heritage Centre" and shoot them. A friend has 10 pistols on FAC under this section from a couple of Webleys, a Hi-Power and P38 as well as a Colt Python and a couple of Smiths.

Likewise, another friend has a Sig 226 for humane dispatch with a restricted magazine and another friend has a unrestricted .44 magnum because of the type of game, wild boar, he has to dispatch in ancient woodland.

So it's not about "never legally owning a handgun", it's about having new legislation to again include cartridge pistols for sport and target shooting.

What is your primary Club if you live Local may be you would like to attend one of our guest days and discuss your views with my fellow club members our oldest member was at Dunkirk and was a career soldier the rest of the Guys have been shooting for a average of 30 years.

And? Even just on this thread there are a number of ex-soldiers and one serving, myself included, who have seen active service and have been shooting for many years. Is our service and experience not as valued or important?

And perhaps that is the point why so many of the "Old Guard" are not interested in seeing pistols extended back to sport on the mainland, as it's unlikely to happen within their life times........

It's an extract from the Olympic Charter..

"The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."

I wonder why it never applies to shooting

Becase pp1 Mt 1500 etc etc etc are not Olympic recognised sports....which is a bummer...
