If you need help just ask and I'm sure we can all help you - or just ring Membership at the NRA and ask for Nick.

The application isn't that bad if you follow this http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/member ... p?site=NRA

The first option is probably the easiest. (Bit like choosing which tunnel of your sett to go down ;) )
As for copies of your FAC, only really need the front and back of the first sheet. They don't need to see all the firearms you have on it.

Thanks for the pointer, but those are the very forms we have problems with.

Why, for example, do they need to know "Occupation and Field" ?

It might be useful for their marketing friends to sell on, or for Farmer Giles to discover where we are hiding, but it isn't necessary for the NRA to know that information. The form is replete with other such superfluous requirements...

I just don't see the problem. The form is easy to read, easy to fill in. As to the occupation and field, at least two of the clubs that I belong too have these as mandatory fields. It is useful to the clubs/associations in that they can identify any skills that you have that may be useful to the club, i.e. if you are a lawyer or a plumber can can save the club/association money.

As for your FAC that is also mandatory for most clubs as it is used as part of the Police background checks that will be carried out. What are you so precious about hiding or with holding?

Yes ooman, it may be useful to the NRA, but it isn't necessary. Our privacy is precious to us.

We've had a success, oomans.

This is how to join the NRA.

1. Ask that nice Mr Mercer to have one of the NRA's dedicated, diligent and industrious staff to contact you forthwith.
2. Wait a very short time, then answer the phone to one of the NRA's dedicated, diligent and industrious staff.
3. Discuss with them exactly what they need, rather than what the forms ask for.
4. Take advantage of their kind offer of discounted membership for the remainder of 2013 and the whole of 2014
5. Pop a cheque and a partially completed application form in the post.

See told you it was easy

The only reason for asking for things like occupation is that when the NRA need someone with a specific set of skills they can search the database to look for all the lawyers or accountants or badgers etc.

I put my occupation down as "Goddess" They haven't called yet . . .

More to the point, they haven't yet *quite* got to the state where the only way out of the sh*t is with the assistance of a deity.
