Shooting at Bisley: How to ?

#1 Post by meles meles »

Well oomans, how do we go about releasing a few canned bangs back into the wild at Bisley? Some members of our Surrey Sett, all of them NRA members who shoot at Bisley, have invited us to join them. We're not an individual member (we considered it but changed our mind when we saw the paperwork involved) but the club we shoot in is affiliated. can we turn up, quote our affiliation number, show our "Safe shooter" card and then join them on the range?

Not quite. If you are a member of an NRA affiliated club you can shoot at Bisley however it needs to be a formally organised club meeting, even if it is only for a pawfull of shooters. In reality it means you need to get the club secretary or similar to make the booking.

Hmmm, so no great encouragement to try their facilities and precious little for our affiliation fee...

Ovenpaa,

What if it was a competition between the two clubs?

We'd rather hoped that as an affiliated member of the NRA we'd be allowed to use the facilities on an individual basis.

DM, I did wonder about non NRA members who are members of an Affiliated club, I assume if it was an official competition they would be OK. Hopefully someone will be along in a minute to confirm this. As I am an NRA member I just book and shoot.

For your affiliation fee you get to book ranges at Bisley as a club.
No affiliation = no shooting at Bisley.
Your clubs affiliation fee means you dont have to stump up an individual membership fee!
So you do actually get something for your affiliation fee.
My club is affiliated and we shoot there at least once a month. And 80% of us are individual members of the NRA.
As an affiliated club you can also introduce your newbie shooters to full bore and issue SSCards.
And before this becomes another NRA bashing ( and believe me I could!) consider this.
If the NRA folded and Bisley was no more where would alot of us go to shoot?

We don't usually shoot at Bisley because its hundreds of miles away from our sett. Howecer, we'll be visiting friends near there soon and as they are NRA members (it's their local range), we'd rather hoped we'd be able to join them on the principle that being a member of an affiliated club would allow us to do so.

It was (and I am fairly sure still is) all to do with insurance.

If you are not an individual member you need to be shooting on your affiliated club's booking so you are covered by their affiliated club's insurance.

But aren't all clubs covered by insurance obtained through the NRA... ?

And what if we have individual insurance, say through the BASC ?
