Oh hey guys I agree, hit any decent sized animal with a car and you're going to see damage. I remember heading down the M4 early one Sunday morning from Wales on my way back to Germany, I hit a small roe deer while travelling at 70MPH. End result was a brand new week old car written off. I was lucky the road was fairly quiet that morning or it could have been a lot worse, as it is I walked away without a scratch.

All I remember was seeing a flash of brown fur going under the left front wheel, steering died and the car went from the middle lane across to the fast lane, hit the crash barrier and did a complete 360 across all three lanes and came to a stop on the hard shoulder facing the direction in which I was driving. Ever since then when driving in the early morning or at twilight/night in rural areas, I always take it easy.

Saying that though I've still had a few near misses where deer have jumped out on me a short distance to the front, these days I have a bumper guard on front of the truck to avoid damage to both the front of the truck and me.

Thanks guys for info on the 17 HMR.
Isn't it a tad over powerful for rabbits ? 22lr does that job beautifully.

Froggy, yeah maybe at close ranges mate but the 17HMR does give one the ability to reach out and touch accurately beyond say 50 yards, not that some .22's can't do that.

.22 WMR for instance. We have an Anschutz in 22WMR that is very accurate and less worried by wind than .17 HMR

It doesn't have an apostrophe either.

Badger,
It doesn't have an apostrophe either.
Then I advise you to get one as no .22 should be without one old son :55:

Finally don't have to use one of the club guns. Previous owner was junior county champ so should be better than me for some time to come.

Very nice. You gonna leave it standard or do you have a shopping list for it already?
