Advice needed regarding a scope

Personally I will not be wanting to put a spotting scope on my rifle, but I dare say someone will,

A little off post but relevant,

Whilst shooting the European F Class champs last year I was paired with Heather at what may have been 900 yards.
She challenged a score and when the target came up she had gained a point and her marker had moved.
I questioned her as to how she knew and she simply replied "I could see the bullet hole".
You can not do that with my 18x and should you be competitive, those extra points do count.

I wonder what Vince does with his fixed power scope when the weather comes down? Certainly during the same comp last year, the rain was so heavy during one detail, that most competitors wound down the magnification.

I struggled!

I was shooting with a very nice Dutchman - I could 'centre' the crosshair but he was telling me where the spotter was! Fortunately, the wind eased off when the rain came.

When Heather said she could see the shot-hole - I assume she meant the spotter - and which side of the line it was. But correct me if I'm wrong Heather.

When we shoot 600 yd BR (on a white target) you can just about see your shot-holes with a quality 32 power (or over) scope. I've never seen shot-holes beyond 600 yds.

I can hardly see the target with conventional target sights !!!!!!!

Really going to have get with it and sort out an "F" class or Match rifle.

Problem is what to get rid of out of the toy cupboard to make room.....

I've been issued S&B scopes, i was once even issued a Handstodt (which i later learned was a Zeiss which was for testing), the yanks (god bless their ignorance) have even been issued Leupolds but i have never met anyone nor heard of Nighforce scopes being issued.

I stand by my comment. The Belgians, Germans, French and us all had a chance to view the scopes and found them generally far inferior in poor light conditions.

You may be correct but the Nightforce catalogue that I have on my bedside table has a sales article and a picture of one of their (Nightforce) scopes which received a direct hit by a 7.62x39 whilst being used by a "U.S. Soldier".

I noticed whilst watching "making the cut" last week, which followed a cadre of US Marine snipers, that they were using S&B and Premier Reticles scopes.
I came across Premier Reticles a while back and liked what they do, I would love to handle one and be able to afford one.

Yup, i've seen the same pic myself and undoubtedly it got in theatre as a result of the many support programs such as 'Adopt a Sniper.' that are in operation in the US. Essentially US citizens can make a donation to specific dealers, who in turn will use that money to 'buy' and ship out unit's 'wish lists.' Therefore a town or area can support the troops from their area and provide them with the kit they wish/need but weren't issued.

I have been told by a couple of mates still serving that the Adopt a Sniper program in particular has benefitted some snipers in particular by updating their optics.

Yet another example of how pathetic our country has become - we can't even stomach the troops coming back in their uniforms, far less actually supporting them and trying to get them the right kit.
