Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Afternoon all,
Now I know it's virtually impossible to send firearms to the US and they have crazy laws about imported military weapons having to have the receiver cut in half. (and you thought ours make no sense)
But, what about sending deactivated weapons to auction in the US, I am currently selling an old spec Sten mk2 on my site and I saw this old RIA auction
http://rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/52/lid/1721
and it got me to thinking....is this possible, I know the answer is going to be NO....life just isn't that easy!
So come on then chaps....ruin my dreams of untold riches in the States and tell me I can't do it!
Anyone with any info on this?

Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Nope you can't do it, the reciver tube would be classed as a machine gun unless chopped into little pieces!
Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Run it past Tracy at PBS International (Firearms imports/exports) Contact number here http://www.firearmslogistics-support.com/ If there is a way Tracy will know, I cannot recommend the company and Tracy too highly, apparently her boss knows a thing or two about shooting as well (Gary Costello)
Top people at a top company, what they do not know about the import and export of firearms is not worth knowing.

I Second PBS they did a sterling job getting Pinfire revolvers out of Switzerland for us
Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Cheers guys,
I will look into this and report back...you know, this is the real beauty of Full-bore isn't it, everyone sharing info and contacts/advice for the common good.
Many thanks again, John.

PBS contacted chaps...seem very efficient....I will report back!
Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
It will have been "Demilled" and registered as a deactivated war trophy pre 1986, because of the way the NFA works in the states, once a machine-gun always a machine-gun (same rules here in fact nearly..) the owner could have it made into a working machine gun again! hence the value!
your New spec or old spec sten reciever would have to be cut into pieces and be sold as a parts kit, unfourtunatley the parts they'd want (the barrel and bolt) have been destroyed by our deactivation process!
so i'd say it was a definite No go!

Yep, I agree, no word yet, but got to be no....I'll bet that nice Mr Romney would have let me!
Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Ok guys the jury's in...and the verdict is...No... Surprise, surprise!
ATF take a rather dim view of Class 3 auto weapons, so thats that plan in the bin.
PBS say yes :shakeshout:
Rock Island Auctions say no :cool2:
But antique firearms are permitted, so perhaps thats another route to pursue in the new year.

Re: Exporting deactivated weapons to the US
Antique firearms have to have been made before 1898 to be a antique. Anything else is just a old gun.But antique firearms are permitted, so perhaps thats another route to pursue in the new year.
Deactivated firearms often cost more then a working sample. ????? Something is wrong here.
Why would anyone want a gun that did not work????? Something really wrong here.
A Sten gun? Heck a school boy in tin shop class could knock out a working Sten in two hours or less.
