Firearms in your Garden

#1 Post by Mike357 »

Are you allowed to have firearm in your garden for the purposes of cleaning it?

The reason I ask is that I have a large back garden that is secure and backs on to a golf course. The two houses either side slightly overlook it. During the summer, am I allowed to have a firearm outside for the purposes of cleaning?

if you're in attendance all the time cleaning it and not leaving it lying around I can't see the issue, I do mine all the time.

I must admit the first time John next door look over the fence whilst I was doing my Remmy his face was a picture

My neighbour and I do tend to have avid discussions about rifles over the garden fence which involves a lot of touching (The rifles!!) Our garden is totally enclosed by 6' and 7' fences and only overlooked by the neighbour so that is OK, I do not clean my rifle outside as I do not have a stable platform to work on and I am not happy about dirt flying around but the kitchen is OK with the back door open as is the workshop.

I would not dare take any firearm into my back garden even though it is surrounded by a 6 foot fence. I would not trust any of my neighbours with the fact I have fire arms in the house and I have lived here for 38 years with the same neighbours.
May be I am just paranoid but the less they know about my buisness the better as far as I am concerned.

I clean them in my garage cum workshop and transfer in their covers. I do not wish to excite the curiosity of the neighbours, although one side provides a ref to my FAC renewal, and the otherside has a FAC.

I shoot roe, rabbits, crows, pigeons, pheasants, foxes, woodcock, and in a hard winter the odd red in my garden in Sutherland. Mainly out of the bedroom window.

Seeing JJVC potting pigeons at 6 o clock in the morning standing in the front door lobby with him wearing nothing but a twelve bore, a pair of pit hoggers and a hangover, is a sight that still lingers.

BTW Joe, where were you keeping the cartridges?

I've heard the expression 'Shoot yourself in the foot' but that is quite extreme! :o
