Magnum or ordinary??

#1 Post by johngarnett »

Has anyone a definite answer as to which primer is best for a TR load of TR140 and a 155 bullet please. Large rifle or magnum large rifle?

I need to purchase some more so was wondering what the current thoughts were before I commit myself!.

Thanks folks.

Within the TR community I know of no-one that uses magnum primers. The majority of reloaders seem to use either Remington 9 1/2 Large rifle, CCI BR2 or Federal 210 GM. There are possibly others being used but these seem to be the most favoured.

For .308 I favour the Fed210M however the CCI-BR works every bit as well.

I did actually use Rem 9 1/2 Magnum primers for a while and they seemed to work very well with 46grn of Vit N140, but no better than Rem 9 1/2 standard primers or Federal 210 match. I eventually went back to using Fed 210 Match which work very well for me.

Likewise - Fed GM210M with N140 or TR140.

I concur with Ovenpaa, Gaz, Roz

I readily interchange the FEDERAL 210M and CCI-BR2 when using TR140 with any of the 155gn bullets
Have found that both give me same accuracy on paper, similaer ES and velocity.
