Selling range brass to the scrapy
I took a tonne + of stainless to the scrapy this morning and while I was there I asked if they take range brass - I have a fair old sack of the stuff to get rid of. The reply was "as long as it has an official certificate with it!"
Has anyone come across this before as I have never been asked to produce one in the past. I always check for spent primers etc, so know that all is safe.
Are there any available templates or do I just make something up on the pc and try and make it look as good as possible?

Re: Selling range brass to the scrapy
my local scrappy won't entertain taking used cases :( (knocked off lead roofs and drain covers maybe, but brass.........)
Re: Selling range brass to the scrapy
I call Taurus Excretium on that.
Official Certificate? Okay, then take your FAC down. I reckon he just couldn't be bothered to take it.
I've sold 20+lbs of old brass to our local scrappy, and it was recently, too, and there was no fuss.

Most are so stupid they think a spent corroded case is going to somehow explode and blow up the scrap yard.
That is the honest truth. We get the same thing here from many of the idiots.

I take brass to a local scrap merchant who insists on a 'Free from Explosives' Certificate. I have small supply of the MoD ones and use those. And before anyone asks, no I will not pass any on to anyone else as my stock is getting smaller and I need them all.

Re: Selling range brass to the scrapy
I chopped in a load of Berdan cases just before Christmas. I emailed them first to check and I managed to get to speak with someone sensible and he said no problem. Then went to the actual yard... I'm being kind in calling the blokes in there morons, it's was literally like trying to communicate with another species
The monkey behind the counter wasn't going to take them at first, even when I showed him the email saying it was fine (he may have been confused by printed word to be fair), then fortunately the guy I'd been emailing showed up and took them off me.

What is the going rate/kg for range brass? I have a load sitting in the Shed right now.

Simple answer is, I dont know because I didnt get that far!ovenpaa wrote:What is the going rate/kg for range brass? I have a load sitting in the Shed right now.
Shame really, as I was hoping to get a bit more pocket money for the Trafalgar. There are a couple more yards I can try in the morning-I just need to think of an excuse to visit a couple of 'suppliers' tomorrow.

Burner, I've never had a problem with the scrappy's mate. When we lived down in in Sagnasty they happily took it, just had to show ID and fill in a form because of tits stealing copper wiring and such. The scrappy up here is okay about it as well, never no problem mate.

ovenpaa,
Check out NRA mag for 'Mash - Wanted 7.62 cases'.
He offered me a good price for brass. He will also collect from Bisley. Whilst I've never dealt with him I have had a quote from him and I know of others who have had 'a sale', quite happily.
I think his website indicates the brass is used for 'goth jewellery'!
Worth an email.
