What would you do ?

This has happened to a freind of mine !!

A completely botched barell threading job to the point the threads run out, (looks like it was done by hand with die holder)
It has been to proof and passed but is completely off center and a bad job.
Gun shop that carried out the work have refused to do anything about it !!
And apparently BASC have said that they are un able to help !! They don't have any experts apparently.
The Guntrade Association are not interested.

It would appear that the only route to follow is the small claims court??

Basic job for trading standards, the job isn't fit for purpose. Get on the phone and let them deal with it.

What have the gun shop actually said about the job? Did they do it themselves or sub it out?

Trading standards would be g good place to start as Alan has pointed out.

Supply of Goods & Services Act. Service not executed with reasonable care and skill. The problem is finding an expert to swear that the job is so.

I'm surprised the GTA, BASC etc aren't interested. You'd have thought they'd at least give it a second glance. Any pictures?

Trading Standards......also give them opportunity to fix (recorded delivery, seven days stating the problem as you see it and the action you want them to take) or you will get it fixed elsewhere and sue them for the cost in Small Claims Court.....

Make sure ALL communications in writing, preferably recorded delivery. Avoid phone calls which will be denied or "misconstrued".

I know for a fact that rifle barrel will pass quite easily through the safety glass of a cars windscreen.

Coming from a different direction I find it strange that someone who has taken the time to centre up the barrel either through the headstock via a 4 jaw chuck and spider or with a fixed steady would then cut a barrel thread with a die?

I would like to know why the person who owns the rifle suspected there was something wrong and took the time and money ( barrel vice etc) to take the barrel off.

To know who had done the work so they could defend themselves would also help.

A picture would save a thousand words and stop tonnes of muck being thrown about

Perhaps I did not make my self clear:

The threading job was for a moderator and you can see the error with the naked eye.

No muck has been slung as the question was on 'what would be the best course of action', no gun shop or
individual has been named,
