32 ACP in a 303 rifle.

Just been following a discussion on Gunboards about .32 ACP adaptors for .30 calibre rifles (30-06, 303 etc.) Wonder what the deal would be in the UK. It would be fun to use my No 4 and SMLE on an indoors 25 yard range!

They would just go on your ticket as another barrel.

Just as good results can be obtained by loading 4-5 gns of any fast pistol powder e.g VVN310 in the 303 case behind a 120 gn lead bullet.

It should be well within the range limits, at our club we have a chronograph to verify peoples loads and we run competitions for full bore military rifles on our 25yrd indoor range, great fun and people get more use out of their rifles than just the full bore range days once a month.

I have been using those adapters for years, .32 Smith and Wesson Long to .303, .308, 7.5x55mm, also .22 LR to .223.

No need for adapter to go on ticket, only requirement is you have the ammo, i.e. .32 on your ticket and your good reason for having it is use with .303 etc using adapter.

Interesting, when I've come across them in the past they have been on ticket as pressure bearing parts.

Devon and Cornwall police are not interested. Years ago I knew someone who made one for his .300 Weatherby Mag for .32 ACP, they just insisted he had it proofed.

I use a load of 1.3 grains of Accurate Number 2 in my .32 SW long, which can put the 98 grain Wad Cutter through the same hole at 25 yards.

So prudent to check with the local FLO for their take on it before acquiring methinks.

I would guess that - under the law as it stands - adapters are not only "on ticket" as a chambered barrel, but that they also need to be proofed as well.

The Lee soupcan at 115gn is the most common, you may be lucky and get one dropping .314"-.315" if not the mould is easy enough to Beagle.

The Lyman 313 249 I have also used to good effect although it is a bit lighter at around 100gns.

The Lyman 311359 and 311410 are also good boolits but they may need Beagling also.

Any boolit will do so long as the fit is good.

The lighter boolits sans gas check with small powder charges and LP primers make for cheap shooting.

In my Slazenger model 24 in 22 Hornet I just use 22 air rifle pellets and a LR primer, no powder, punches paper well out to 25 yrds.
