Want to run annealing torches from gas bottle-what's needed?

#1 Post by The Cupcake Kid »

I use an annealing setup with 2 x gas torches (they're go-ahead fine-flame torches like this: http://www.go-system.co.uk/catalog/prod ... tegory/22/)

They are normally used with 400g Propane cylinders but I want to convert my set-up so I can use one big bottle of propane feeding both burners with hoses.

What do I need to get to do this and where's the best place to go (mail order or based in Surrey/Berks area)? Can't find many applications on line which would use this sort of set-up so I don't know whether I need 1 or 2 regulators, which type of hose would be needed, where to get a 'y' fitting etc etc.

Anyone here done this already?

I would stick with the 400g cannisters, as you can run into legal problems with keeping a big bottle in the house, and I should think the cannisters last quite a while anyway, however should you decide to go to a bigger bottle, then you will need just 1 regulator and some low pressure hose, along with a "y" or "T" fitting with barbed hose connectors and connectors for the torches (which look like they are dedicated cannister fittings so non adaptable!) you could try Calor gas (Jewells) at Mortimer and see if they still stock those bits, otherwise google "BES gas" for fittings

Go to your nearest BOC Agent, they should be able to sort you out.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably give BES a call on Monday. The blow lamps use CGA600 fittings and I'm sure I've seen adapters to convert this fitting to a hose so I'm hoping I carry on using them.

Think I upset Doug when I asked him, via email, which ITAR exporter I could use to get one of his annealers.
