Cavalry carbine
Morning, all.
I’ve been thinking*
*a dangerous pastime**
**I know
And do you know what I’ve only ever seen once with my own MkI eyeballs? A Lee-Enfield cavalry carbine.
I know they were made, and surely they cant of all been scrapped or lost or whatever – some must be around.
I know this is like saying; Do you know what I really want? A jetfighter! Yeah, you can want one, but…
As I said, I’ve seen one down-range, once – and only one advert for one years ago, which was about £600 – a figure one can easily save up for.
So, where are they all? Any ideas?

Re: Cavalry carbine
Deactivated!
I too have only seen one 'live' one in the flesh, very nice.
I think it was about £600 and that was with a shot out barrel.
Considering the deacts I've seen go for around £1000 it probably explains why so few shootable examples are seen.
It's probably the only Lee Enfield (or Metford) that I really want, but I doubt I'll end up owning one.

Re: Cavalry carbine
Great article. sign92
It reminded me that another rifle I would like to own is one of the Martini Henry cadet rifles made for the Western Australian Govt. Maybe one day.

Re: Cavalry carbine
There was/is one on Guntrader, RWS Engineering I think, it was over the 900 mark though, it was a NZ contract model and looked really good
Re: Cavalry carbine
wtfwtfit was over the 900 mark though
No way is that worth £900! I know they're not exactly a penny a pound 7.62mm jobbie, but £900.00? Really?
Re: Cavalry carbine
It's pricey but with today's markets I'm not surprised,
I bought my unissued No.4 Mk.2 UF batch for £500 and that was in 2006, now I've seen ordinary No.4s go for nearly that much.
All rare types of Lee Enfield fetch nigh on a grand. I've seen No.1 Mk.1s and No.1 Mk.Vs go for around a grand a pop, the NZ carbines were only a small contract, around 1500-2000 if I recall correctly, so really are at a premium
And to top it all off, they are practically gun porn

Re: Cavalry carbine
My NZ contract carbine has in fact sold to an Enfield collector. I only buy (and hence sell) top condition or very rare examples of Enfields and I pay strong money to secure such items, a consequence of this is that I tend to get offered the more unusual..... I have a 1900 dated cavalry carbine for my own collection - it is the only live example that I have ever been offered and it has no finish, no timber and a ratty bore! However they are bloody rare and worth grabbing if ever seen....
Re: Cavalry carbine
IF anyone ever gets lucky enough to find a cavalry carbine I know a very nice chap that makes the correct slings for the Martini Henry Cavalry Carbine & the Lee Metford Cavalry Carbine bigteeth
