Reloading 7.62 x 51
Hi,
I am just about to start reloading for TR so I will be loading 7.62 x 51mm. Does anyone know what powder and charge weight is used in say either the RUAG or HPS round?
I will be using a Sierra 155gr Matchking bullet and have all the equipment and cases to get going.
I was thinking of using Vihtavouri N140 but according to their data the maximum load is still nowhere near 2900fps.
Can anyone help?

Martin,
I've had loads of good advice here on this very subject; let me try and find it.

Looking through my data, the powders that will take a 155gn SMK to 2900fps are;
IMR 3031, 4064 and 4320. Hodgdon, BL(C)2, H335 and H414. Accurate 2230 and Vhit N550.
All of them at the maximum as well......

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Hi Watcher,
Thanks for that, what powder/load did you settle on? I am guessing that either N140 or N550 is the way to go?

155's with TR140 is a good combination, load data:

Is TR140 a Vihtavouri powder?
My local shop stocks mostly Viht powders

TR140 is not a Viht powder however it is available at Bisley and is around GBP55/Kg and less. It appears to be very slightly slower than N140 and works well in .308 and .223
Re: Reloading 7.62 x 51
I half way through working up a load for my TR and .303 with N140. I went for N140 as most of the advice I had favoured it and as much as anything because its easily and regularly available up here. I didn't want to fix a load and then not be able to get any for six months. Its about £60 a kilo though.MartinC wrote:Hi Watcher,

I haven't reached any conclusions yet as I'm struggling to find range time at the moment.
