Variations

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

My FAC variation for a 5,56x45/.223 with .22LR upper went in a few days ago and arrived yesterday, it was wrongly worded. A quick call to my Firearms licensing received a promise of a call first thing in the morning to sort it out and true to their word they have just called back and they will pop a replacement FAC in the post today.

Phewww....

I am now covered by Beds and Herts area, the amalgamation is a recent thing and I must admit having had an FEO that I could virtually walk to in the past I was slightly worried when I heard they were moving, after the move the first couple of contacts were a bit longer than I was used to but today's call tells me they are back on form and working well.

Nice one Beds & Herts :goodjob:

Now the telling thing is going to be my renewal which is just six weeks away. They assure me I need only allow 4 weeks for the process. That will be interesting.

I called my licensing dept last week to ask what wording was needed for an Ar-15 upper only and they didn't know (to be fair to them the manager wasn't available at the time).

Would you mind saying what wording/description have you used for Herts & Beds?

Thanks

 Always good to hear about an FLD getting it right.

By "my renewal is only 6 weeks away" is that 6 weeks away until you can submit the renewal i.e. 2/3 months before expiry (or whatever it is) or 6 weeks until your tickets expire??? Not the later i hope or you will indeed have to pray their 4 week turnaround is realistic! :o

Blackstuff, I have anguished over this, do I get the variation and then renew or renew with a variation and wait until the 4th July to pick up my new Blackgun. In the end I rang them and asked and they said do the variation now, get the rifle and then bang everything in for the renewal and they are confident they can turn it around in time.

Ah, i see, that is a quandry, and to be fair i would've done the same thing, particularly for a 'black beauty' tongueout

Well i do hope their estimated time is correct :good: After the great debate not so long ago about keeping the guns in your house (on the assurance of the FLD that its fine to do so) or take them to an RFD before the expiry date, which way do you think you'll go if the worst happens?

The four weeks they quoted was based on my geographic location and they did say it would vary depending on where I lived. If my FAC does get close to expiring first thing is call them and I do know them very well so I am sure they would help, lodging them with an RFD is not an option I would like to pursue.

They called back a few minutes ago to confirm that it would be sent out tonight and I took the opportunity to ask another question which meant I needed to speak to the FEO. He said he might have known it was me, was going to mark me down as trouble and call round to revoke my licence. We were both laughing at the time.

It pays to have a good relationship with the FEO's and I feel incredibly lucky to have such a firearms licensing department.

Hmm don't get me started!!

The actual FEO that covers me is great - ex job and an interested party - he is just snowed under!! (I've been nagging him every couple of days about my variation - 5 weeks today!!)

Each time I ring - it is the same response - it is in my pile somewhere, when I get to it, I'll ring you!!

Now I know it has been processed and printed, the Admin Clerk told me in the office (I was ringing her every couple of days too O:-) )

FEO rang yesterday - coming round tomorrow for a "chat" (I hope he will have my FAC!) I asked why the Chat for a variation - his witty reply was along the lines of enough new calibres to start a small war (I have asked for 5 additional slots and mods for 3!)

So will see what happens tomorrow - whether he has it with him or I have to wait for it to be posted? (He fetched the last one with him)

I know staffs are behind by a long way, 2 people at the club put in for renewals in November - FACs expired in Feb! (they now have Sect 7s) - but still no renewed FACs!!

Devon and Cornwall police recommend applying for a renewal 8 weeks before expiry. I put mine in 6 weeks before and they renewed it on time. The big drawback is that it was renewed on 3rd April and despite several phone calls I still haven't received it!

I am actually toying with not bothering applying for my one for ones once David takes the AR off my hands, Kent are taking around 5 months to turn one around giving priority to renewals, (fair enough) it wouldnt be so bad if the 14 day to apply policy was changed which should be the case given the backlog that most departments have.
Perhaps ill just give them a ring tomorrow to see what the score is.
