LAPUA SMALL PRIMER .308 WINCHESTER CASES - WHY?

What advantage is there is using a small primer in a case? I note that the small primer cases are about £14 more expensive per hundred.

Also can anyone recommend a supplier of bulk i.e. 500 lots of Sierra bullets?

I bought some 155 SMK from John Carmichael of HPS in Quedgley. 01452 729888 and hps-tr.com.

I believe the NRA at Bisley also sell in 500 boxes.

Hi Lapua developed the 6.5 x 47 using small primers but initialy they tried large. It was found the small ones worked better, it's worth giving Brian fox a ring.

The small primer .308 was developed with input from the US Palma team and is supposed to give more consistent velocity with reduced ES plus there were reports of variations in primer lots, the smaller primer is supposed to overcome this.

It also means the brass comes from new tooling so should be better quality.

I did a bit of research in to this and in the end decided that it was not worth the expense for what you will find is splitting experienced shooters as to whether there is any real benefit or not,

Accurate shooter has a lot of info which will help you decide if you really want to go down that road,

I only tried a box unfortunately they do not seem to be as consistent as an old lot (1000) standard 308 large primed cases.
The runout found on the palma cases was .003" for the best one while I had .001" .002" lots for the standard (much older
production).I was a little bit disappointed if you consider that some of the RWS berdan had runout close to zero.However
my son produced the smaller groups with the Lapua Palma cases:short range light bullets 155-168.
