Powder ID.

#1 Post by dromia »

I have a 4-5 lbs of a long grain powder powder hand labeled EX HPS 2007.

Were HPS loading ammunition in 2007 and if so would it have been 308 only?

Or does the labelling have any other meaning to anyway.

Asking just in case it could be useable before putting it on the garden.

They were certainly loading in 2007, and in 1997, and probably before that. The majority is .308, but they have other off-the-shelf lines and will load anything you ask. The most common is probably a Sierra 2155 with N140, but there have been many variations over the years depednding on availability at the time. They also loaded fair quantities of Sierra 190 grain - not sure what powder they used for that.

I have always found John at HPS to be very honest about what he makes, I would not be surprised if you were to phone him if he did not tell you what it was, if he is able to do so,
