Load development

#1 Post by M99 »

Well managed to sneak a couple (or 4!) hours on the range this morning before the rugby (did I mention Wales won?)

I've been developing loads for my "shortened" Remi 700 VLS with the 19" blow pipe.

Spent an hour at 100 yards before moving out to 400. I am very pleased at how it shoots and my loads seem to be getting there.

Photo is of 5 groups at 100yds - each group is 5 rounds, each group a different powder charge.

Remi brass, CCI primers, 55 grs Laupa FMJ pushed out by N133 powder.

Weather was light drizzle with a 7-10mph right to left wind, Temp at 15 degrees.

That will do nicely for Mr Fox (Sorry Badger!!)

Did you call the flyer top left group? If so it would be a stunningly good load

The "flyer" was the first round down - so I put it down to operator error ;)

Just loaded some more and some expanding ones too - so off to the farm later to try them!

Looking forward to trying the Redding press when it arrives too.

Some tidy shooting, I will be interested to hear how the next round of testing goes.

A few years ago I moved from N140 to N540 with my AccInt and first time out could not get better than 1.5MOA at 100 yards, a terrible days shooting, I had groups out to 2.5MOA with the flyers, I could usually get three good shots and then two strays and went home both confused and unhappy. A week later I built 25 of the best (I use the term loosely) load to shoot at 600, and shot good groups, moved out to 1000 and my duff load had come good and is the load I use every time I go out. I have not shot it at 100 since but have got in the 50.x a few times at McQueen's 200m

Maybe I was having a bad day, maybe the rifle barrel was not quite as clean as I thought it was, just one of those odd things.
