Help/info re k98 lsr mounts

#1 Post by Meaty »

Hello,
Could anyone help with some info please?
I would like to mount a Hensholdt Dialytan 4 power scope (early 50's I think) onto my k98 but the tube diameter is 28.3mm!
I have been looking at copies of the Long Side Rail mounts from the likes of Accumount and a couple of sellers on Ebay etc but these have 26.5mm rings-does anyone own such a beast and if so, could you have a look for me to see if there is enought meat in the rings to be able to bore it out to the required 28.3mm and still be structurally sound. I have contacted a couple of vendors and have had wildly conflicting replies so far :cool2:
I have access to a fully equiped machine shop and expanding reamers etc but am loathed to spend £150 on something that will be no good.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Meaty.

I have a LSR mount with a 26.5 tubed scope fitted, from the edge of the scope to the start of the threads in the top scope rings this metal is no more than 5mm thick on the side away from the mount frame. The tops are not the same thickness where the screws go through them. Does this help.. fingerscrossed

Hello bnz41,
Thanks for the info, thats spot on! I will have to take out no more than 0.9mm on the radius /1.8mm on the diameter-I will check the maths when I have a bit more time as its not one of my strong points!
Sounds very promising though :good:
