Porta aim tripod

I have just come across this on the web Porta aim tripod , seems like handy litlle thing to carry around if you havent got a bipod fitted or you dont want to carry a heavy rest to the range . Has any one seen them in the UK ?

If you look on either Sniper Country or the Sniper Hide forums they have plans for making your own - keyword was "Sniper Saddle"

4" drainpipe - a suitably sized nut to glue to the chooped pipe & some foam
Then it attaches to a regular camera tripod - spraypaint to suit your terrain

Not a lot of either time, money or skill s needed to make one up & saves chucking hard earned $£$£ at the tax man, etc.

I was thinking the camera tripod route as I have a couple of old ones in a box some where . Just found one on US ebay £25.00 and one from Uttings UK £56.00 mmmmmmmmmmmm twice the price .

If your interested in going down the small Tripod/Camera stand route I have for sale the below tripod. This is the smallest variant and would be an ideal replacement for the conventional fold away Bipod without the hassle of removing the bipod each time and cheaper than a Harris. Heres the full description and specs:

The small two-way pan-tilt tripod is ideal for prone, bench top, or other suitable platforms to provide a compact, lightweight easily packed and stable shooting platform. Given the inherent stability of being prone this system enhances the shooters ability to engage targets, follow through with the recoil and return to their target line without having to adjust for a bipod that may have jumped or shifted during recoil. The ability to cover a target area (left, right, up and down) and/or moving targets is often challenging if you do not have the flexibility to bring your rifle to bear on target quickly, resulting in a lack in efficiency. The tripod and cradle system aid the shooter in rapid accurate target engagement. The tripod and SSP cradles will make a great addition to your kit.

We only use 1000D Cordura material for our covers to maximize resistance to abrasion, dirt, and fabric degradation over time and exposure. The cradles are constructed of 6061 aluminum for strength and minimal weight. The covers are sewn with Mil-Spec thread for durability and longevity. The covers are available in OD - green, Coyote - brown, and Crye MultiCam. The cradles are tapped ¼” by 20 to accept attachment to most standard tripods.

Two size of Cradle:

The SSP-1 rifle cradle will accommodate most standard rifle stocks such as seen on a M40A1, Remington PSS, M40A3, Remington ADL and BDL, it will also fit the AIAE and AIAW stocks.The cradles are tapped ¼” by 20 to accept attachment to most standard tripods. Cradle weighs 7.5 oz.


The SSP-2 accommodates the wider fore ends found with such stocks such as the McMillan A5, TRG 42, or Manners T4.

I also do these tripods in Medium and Large sizes for positional shooting and ideal for Stalking. I made my own whilst serving and they are cheap to build, However these really are a good piece of kit.

Do you make these yourself or are they imported?

They are imported. The guy who makes them is ex USMC Sniper. A top bloke. I was plannning on doing my own but I do not have the means and machines to do so. Plus he makes a top quality product already which is probably one of the best cradles on the market today. There is lots of good write ups on Snipers Hide forum.
