Last LR shoot of the year

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Today was our clubs last long range shoot of the year at Barton Road. Given that I had some RCO duties to tale over and no idea how many would show I grabbed the AI and a battle pack of South African milsurp as I had no idea what I would end up shooting, normally I give it to my son to shoot and walk away so I had no real idea of how it would perform but as we were shooting at 800/1000 a V or two would be good.

First box of 20 produced very nice results at 800 and I kept for the most in the Bull with the odd V to cheer me up (As usual we were shooting at 600yard targets to make life more sporting) second box had me at the very bottom of the frame and it was truly grim, given that the boxes came out of the same battle pack it was an eye opener.

1000 yards saw some more great shots but verticals could jump by 2MOA either way for the odd shot which was becoming increasingly frustrating. Next box saw me adding 4MOA to get in the black but then back to some good 5's and V's. One final box for the day I thought, remember finishing on a V? Well first shot out of the box gave me a splash three feet above the frame! Eeek.... time to pack up I thought and that was the last long range day of the year.

Watching the others I saw some very good shooting on the day which confirmed that conditions were friendly and despite the cold andf some rain wind stayed at a couple of MOA for me, a good day really, Eagernoskills drove up to say hi and was press ganged into Butt duty, many thanks for that, we were struggling a bit, nice to have a catch up as well

The Nurses block at Bisley has been converted now into Dolphin lodge, so, if you want to know where the nurses have gone blame the NRA!

A good day on range
Varied weather, banter and some interesting chats
Beautiful range - like a park
The scrubs I have had to shot on in the past pale in comparison
