Over a year now the Steyr Scout Jeff Cooper Commemorative Edition was released, I guess business is slow because I received a mail from Steyr that mentioned this at the top.

I still want one, I have liked the look of them from day one and if it was not for space and reason I would have one and I am not sure these are good reasons to not have one in he cabinet right now.
Anyone here shooting a Steyr Scout and are they screw in barrels or push in like the SSG?

Re: Steyr Scout Jeff Cooper Commemorative Edition
I had one for years. pe4king will attest that I really regret letting it go. Mine was that the "Tactical" ie in black with a better bolt handle. Fitted a Leupold Scout Scope and a Ching sling, the way it was supposed to be. I sold it to a lad in the club and everytime I see it, I badger him to sell it back to me.........
I honestly can't remember how the barrel was fitted, but you F class boys would have a fit at how skinny that 19" barrel is! I once read Pete Moore saying that he fired 30 rounds through his as quick as he could to see if he could induce a heat related wander. He claimed it didn't wander at at all.
I didn't believe him so had a go at 30 rounds as quick as I could....... Moore was right!

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Steyr Scout Jeff Cooper Commemorative Edition
People either love them or hate them. I'd get an endless line of self professed experts warning me about awful accuracy and wandering barrels. Meanwhile i'd be punching tight groups all day long.
I foollishly sold it to a mate because he nagged me. I wish i hadn't because the first thing he did was separate it from the stock and hack into it. He ruined it.
It really is a hunting rifle intended for firing positions other than prone. The bipod is awful but the rest is all good. I believe the barrel is the same as the Pro, which is screwed - i think i remember a friend getting one re-barreled at Borders.
If looking for just a basic one, then keep an eye out in the stalking circles. It's a popular woodland stalking rifle to some.
