The Bill to restrict lead ammunition

So, oomans, it's been tabled... a short, simple Bill which might easily slip through the House on the nod whilst attention is diverted elsewhere.

The salient bit says...

"A BILL TO

Restrict the possession, use and sale of lead ammunition; and for connected
purposes.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice
and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Restriction of lead ammunition
(1) Any person who possesses, uses or places on the market lead ammunition
for the purpose of shooting animals is guilty of an offence.
(2)Any person who possesses, uses or places on the market lead ammunition
for the purpose of target shooting is guilty of an offence.
(3) Exceptions to the offences in subsections (1) and (2) are set out in section 3.

2 Penalty
A person guilty of an offence under section 1 is liable on summary conviction
to a fine not exceeding level 4 on the standard scale.

3 Exceptions to section 1
(1) Serving members of the armed forces, serving police officers and border
control officers are not guilty of an offence under section 1 if the person shows
that their possession, use or sale of lead ammunition has been carried as part
of their official duties, following written authorisation from a superior officer.
(2) Persons are not guilty of an offence under section 1(1) of possession of lead 15
ammunition for the purpose of shooting animals if the ammunition in their
possession was acquired before the commencement of section 1(1). This
exception expires on 1 September 2025.

4 Extent, commencement and short title
(1) This Act extends to England and Wales only.
(2) This Act, with the exception of section 1(2), comes into force on 1 July 2022

Is there anything that has been suggested as an alternative to lead? Silver bullets or gold maybe?

Lead is almost uniquely suited to the task. It's readily available, moderately low cost, dense, easily formed, not horrendously toxic, doesn't cause too much barrel wear and has an almost zero co-efficient of restitution - thus it goes Splat! when it hits something rather than ricocheting off. Almost anything one might think of to replace it will fail one or more of those requirements...

I do not profess to understand how these things work, but surely there would need to be some justification for such a change? I thought that In 2016 DEFRA concluded that no such ban was necessary?

Also... putting hunting etc to one side, why target shooting? Recovery of lead from butts and proper ventilation on indoor ranges surely mitigate risk to a large extent.

So poorly thought out. Every home with a tin of airgun pellets in a cupboard would be committing an offence!

This is a real threat to all shooting and needs to be taken seriously. (I've just written to my MP)

Yet Another badly thought out private members Bill from the Labour Party.
There has been no impact assessment, no consultation and i really want to see the look on the Home Office drone's face when he tries to calculate how much it will cost to collect, transport, store, dispose of the ammunition and compensate the owners and essentially close down a domestic industry.

Their consultation had zero credibility.

The western oligarchy's masterplan is to ban all lead ammunition everywhere (non-civilian use of lead ammunition is outside the scope of the proposed ban).

Firearms are OK for the establishment but the common people need to be kept in check.
