Renewals variations etc.

#1 Post by Jenks »

Can't say whether this is true or not, but yesterday I went shooting with my club at Moodys Down. During the general conversation a chap said that a friend of his had a letter from his firearms department to say his FAC was due for renewal. Along with the letter (apparently) was a note saying that there were moves afoot to increase the fees for renewals and variations to £200 :o Of course it maybe/probably is, a load of nonsense, has anyone else heard such stories.

It seems it might be slightly more than a rumour!

It has been around for quite a while. Check the date of the linked article.

From a costing perspective...full cost will turn out the highest, as opposed to marginal or incremental cost.

Under full costing a proportion of the Chief Constable's salary will be included.

And the cost of Cumbria enquiry etc etc

And of course a margin.

I've just been given a poster from the Avon and Somerset police firearms office. Firearm officers will now only be able to visit your home from Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, I'm told its the cut backs?

You will have to take a day off work to get your grant or renewal interview.

No night visits.
No weekend visits.

Its going to end up as a total Fxxx Ux

You wait and see.

When I lived in Cheshire, they only did Monday - Friday 9-5 and I have been told by Staffs that they do the same, but are running 12-15 weeks behind on just change of address visits!

If they are going to raise the costs, then they will have to provide a better service or you have much more course for redress. As steep as it sounds £200 - is only £40 a year - we pay a lot more than that in yearly club fees. Can't see them getting away with the same price for a variation though??

The police have wanted the fee raised for some time now, I remember being told this back in the middle 80s with my first ticket!

The price of 200 quid was something that was bandied around during HAC hearings. It may be more than on the cards now that forces are having to face severe budget cuts.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

If only one thing comes out of the Cumbrian inquiry/firearms review it will be a fee hike and i wouldn't be surprised at £200 for a grant/renewal, but would prefer it to be considerably less :? Highly doubt it would apply to a variation though

If you go onto Dorset Polices website you can view the minutes of the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Working Groups (FELWG) meetings and the issue of fee increase has been bandied about a few times.

They may well go ahead and raise it to £200, but how will they handle the s***-storm when their service fails to improve in line with the costs.
