Re: Mosin Nagant variants
"Mosin" rifles......a Nagant is a M1895 revolver
M91/30's, M38 and M44 carbines have round receivers.Despite the new 1930 spec for the 91/30 calling for a round receiver to simplify production the earlier hex receiver by and large changed to the round variant in 1935-1936 as old stocks of hex receivers were used up.
There are some rifles dated post-'36 that were built on earlier receivers and you will find Finnish Mosins built on either hex or round receivers as all Finnish Mosins regardless of year use Russian made receivers as they didn't produce their own.

I have a Finnish Mosin (M27/66) built in the late sixties that sports a hex receiver made in the early 1890’s. M39’s were still being assembled well into the ‘70s using recycled hex and rounds receivers. The TKIV 85 sniper rifle was being assembled in the ...er...’80s using hex receivers. The Kiv/30 (91/30) had both round and hex receivers. It’s complicated.

Nope...I’ll take a look.
Re: Mosin Nagant variants
The sniper versions I guess because the way the mount is fitted to the rifle any variant could be used.

Soviet PE top mounts can be either found on hex or round receivers, the PEM side mount is found on round receivers and the PU side mount is found on round receivers.Alpha1 wrote:The sniper versions I guess because the way the mount is fitted to the rifle any variant could be used.
Original matching PE and PEM snipers are rare as a great many were stripped of their scopes and mounts during Arsenal refurbs and often the rifles had the mounting holes plugged and welded and are referred to by collectors as "ex-snipers.If a PU scope is on a rifle dated prior to '42 it's a fake.
