M1 Carbine Straight Pull

Just read the NRA mag and see they are installing electronic targets at 100 and 200 yards on Short Siberia.
I do most of my shooting on electronics now days and see that M1 carbine should stay supersonic out to 200yrds and therefore register on the targets.
Does anyone have experience of the M1 carbine straight pulls? I've always fancied one and want to find a bit more about them, have read the GunMart review.

Got one, it's brilliant.
Easy to download for indoor gallery ranges but when outdoors I have been getting great results on Fig12 targets at 300yds with irons.
You would have to play with a ballistic calc to see how long it stays supersonic

Neither, I bought a duff batch of WOLF which all needed pulling so I have several thousand cases to work with.

I can pretty much ditto DanTheMan, it's good for Fig11/12 out to 300 yards with ease. I've had good experience with S&B round nose FMJ and H&N plated bullets in the 110gr weight area. You can easily make gallery loads using cast bullets in the same fashion as 357mag. There's no gas port to clog so you needn't worry using cast in the carbine. Hodgdon H110 and Viht N110 are go to powders for full power loads and Bullseye is good for gallery loads.

Apparently they feed better from original GI mags so make sure to keep an eye open for these if the provided mag doesn't work so well. I have a ten rounder and 4 x 15 rounders and they all feed well. Otherwise they're relatively easy rifles to operate and maintain. You have to remember not to short stroke it, when you pull the charging handle back just let it go rather than baby it forward otherwise it won't go into battery (always happens when I let someone shoot it even though I tell them multiple times...).

When looking for a rifle confirm which rear sight is fitted. There is a basic flip up aperture sight for two distances and there's a finer aperture sight with micrometer windage adjustment, a basic Google search will show you images of these. The elevation settings for the latter are 100/200/250/300 yards iirc but are good enough to get you on Fig11 targets at distances in between.

I mainly shoot at Bisley and will probably keep to factory rounds.
Now all I have to do is find one. The dealers offerings at 1600 are a bit rich.
Will wait and see if any private sales come up.

Argh, the pump bit is a bit of a give-away. It was the compensator that caught my eye as the one I have coming has an identical one on it.
