Ruger 10/22 M1 clone
Hello
I have a 10/22 Standard that I am going to turn into a M1 Clone all parts are available from friends in the USA.
I would like to change the front sight to a mini 14/M1/Garand type and also want to fit the bayonet mount so the base has to come off, but although the top of the 10/22 sight is readily removed. The base is somewhat more difficult there is no staked pin, or screw. Is it pressed on ? can it be removed if so how.
This is the first time youtube has let me down.

Isn't it part of the barrel and machined on?

Nodak spud do a M1 style FSB that fits over the standard sights.

Hello
Cannot see how the sight base could be machined out of the barrel blank, and also has a flat top.
The Nodak slip on sight cover looks a bit cheap.
I have seen that the Ruger Mini 14 sight base is press fitted, and there is a special tool that is used to remove it.
Only problem I can find no references regarding the 10/22

I did a search and the consensus is it is part of the barrel.
I have one in the workshop, later I'll dig it out and start cutting on it to see.
It wouldn't be too hard to machine it off if you need to get rid of it but all the replacement sights I've seen today use the old base or dovetail as a locator.

Re: Ruger 10/22 M1 clone
Well as they say the best laid plans.
Thought it would be easier than that, many thanks for the info, still if you find the definitive answer please post.
One other thought on plain barrels the sight is close the muzzle. On screw cut versions the sight base is set back behind the threaded portion.
So the sight base position is different on both variants, surely Ruger would not manufacture two different barrels.??

They use many different types of barrels of varying thickness, length and profile, even hammer forged ones.Mauserbill wrote: So the sight base position is different on both variants, surely Ruger would not manufacture two different barrels.??
Why would it be so hard to imagine they make one with a 3/4" length of thread in front of the foresight?

Hello
In the USA the mighty dollar rules, if they could do it more cheaply and efficiently they would.
Look a the new 10/22s with all the plastic, and what Remington did to Marlin !
