variation

#1 Post by douglas670 »

yesterday i stuck a variation in to change my 7.62x54 slot for a 6.5x55, being scots cause its FREE!!!!!!!

However after a much deliberation i should have also put in to increase my authority for another calibre, DOH!!!!

Could I contact the Fireams dept and send in a cheque along with an accompanying letter so they can inform the FEO who maybe has the variation already,
any advice appreciatd if this has hapened to you in the past

i will probably contact them for advice tomorrow anyway

another query - my license is up for renewal january 2013, if i dont find a suitable rifle by then do i loose the authority as i have been told in the past that this i the case? trying to find THE suitable rifle might take sometime rather than rushing things

In my experience you do not lose the authority to purchase rifle X just because you have not done it in the life of your FAC.
When your renewal comes up just put rifle X as one of your slots to be aquired. If FEO questions why you have not purchased rifle X just tell them that the right rifle has not come along. Been doing this for years as I still have not purchased a third .308 but want the facility just in-case.

Hi Steve
agree with what you say, dont know why it seems that all force areas seem to have different views regarding most things which involve firearms licensing

My FEO'S say if you dont use the authority in the 5 years then theres somehing wrong!!!! and you would loose it.
Maybe its time to question or advise them re finding say a rare type of Gun etc rather than being trodden on.

i had a similar scenario a few years ago, my other hobby is living history/reenactment and I portary a ww1 british soldier.
Some of the guys have a live firier on their ticket for blank firing at events and target shooting. when i applied to have the same authority i was told i had to have 2 seperate rifles, one for blanks only and another for target, so i had to buy anothe SMLE which cost a fortune. i thought we all had the same Home office etc etc.

I have a couple of .303's and 7,62x51's and all I did was put 'target shooting' on the variation. I was asked once why another whatever it was calibre and I said it was for a different distance, they have never asked me since.

I also put 'bulk discount' as a reason for holding, erm.. quite a few 7,62x51's which ACPO say is not a good justification and the FEO said fine and allowed it.
