Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Why on earth did this happen? Do the French not have safety courses etc?

I saw this on a Mountain Bike facebook group im in.

Seems very little info on what actually happened. I cannot believe for one minute that any hunter can mistake a downhill mountain bike for a fast moving animal....

More likely story would be being hit through ricochet whilst being off a makred trail as so many of them ride "secret" trails out there which happen to be in the Hunting area...

I am sure lunch time red has been responsible for couple of accidents, but the figure of 20 annual deaths quoted in your article (that I can not read) must been put in perspective, since ard 1,5 millions people hunt in France, the largest number in the whole of Europe...

There are other article about this individual (well there was on the news on my phone), seems he wasn't a particularly nice individual - the comment from his mother says it all, something along the lines of "I hope he rots in hell".

Not papers I would read but found this following a quick Google search:

I'd assumed this was a ricocchet or shoot-through or some other 'accident' but it would seem that he actually intentionally shot at the bloke on the bike after being given the nod from the other guy he was out hunting with?! Too much Merlot the night before?? kukkuk
