Long shot (no pun intended) but has anyone any experience of removing the foresight from a Parker Hale sporterised SMLE? No obvious screws but I haven't removed the sight blade yet. Planning on turning it back to original although somewhat shorter.

Re: Parker Hale SMLE foresight removal
Someone did it at our club the other day.
They used a home made tool......I think it was a flat bladed screwdriver with a slot cut into it.
It took a bit of effort to come loose!

Do you know how it was held in place? Soldered or into a dovetail or similar?

It was dovetail I think, no mention of solder.
I only watched as I've not seen it done before.
I'm sure a better qualified person will be able to shed some light on it for you.

Sounds like that was a No 4 Enfield foresight Chris, the SMLE was a tight, driven in fit but I can't remember the sporterised sight.Dahonis wrote:Someone did it at our club the other day.

Sorted now thanks chaps with some very careful dremmeling! Still not entirely sure how it was held on but it's gone now so happy days. The old girl will be back to her former glory soon!
