22lr BSA Enfield. But what are the holes for?
Very happy I finally got a SMLE in 22lr. Not an expert on them by any stretch. Most of what I know comes from Rifleman .org.
But the thing that most interests me is what are the holes for? A scope mount?

I would say for a Parker Hale type target sight not a scope. +1 very nice rifle.

It's for a peep sight , either Parker-Hale or more likely AJ PARKER.

Looks like I'll need to sell some stuff and get one then.

That rifle looks like it was made yesterday where did you get it?

I was lucky enough to be browsing soon after it was traded into Kirklees guns Huddersfield (hour and a half away for me). Just been out with it today and it's shooting good. Doesn't like Winchester subs though they jam in the breech after shooting. Fine on the various CCI. I have in.
As it condition it's definitely been looked after but lots of repairs to the stock. All done well though.
I have the impression with it that it's a well loved full bore which has been privately converted to small bore (possibly it wore down the gauge).
It's great. I had been on the lookout for a SMLE or a war office trainer for a while but everything was miles away.

Have a look at the markings on the Barrel, if you want to know a bit more about it's history. First lift up the Rear Sight until it's nearly vertical (for clearance). Then lift off the wood to the rear of the Rear Sight Protector ears, it's held to the barrel by two spring clips. There should be loads of stamps and dates there.

Lots and lots of stamps. I'll try to find somewhere to look them.all up.
