Certainly interesting but do we need to see it here though? It appears to be a way of getting round their gun laws, something we don't really need to do in this case. It would be a curiosity more than anything else.

I do find odd calibres and concepts interesting!

Question, what is the legal status of these kind of barrels in the uk? Are they considered smooth bore or rifled?

As it has rifling at some point along its length I would say it would be classed as a rifle.

That's the way the article makes it sound but on reading about the rifles on Russian sites it isn't a "get round", it's just the way Russian firearms laws work.I don't think we need it here but I thought I'd post it more out of interest than anything as they are pretty much the first new Russian calibres since the 5.45x39 round

Whilst the smoothbore/rifled variants wouldn't really be of much use over here fully rifled straight-pull versions chambered in those calibres could make an interesting alternative to the more usual 7.62x39/54r rifles we are used to.

Almost a "reinvented" .30-30 to fit an even older idea of paradox rifling. I understand the concept in order to work within Russian legislation.

So basically it's a Russian version of the "LBR"! Doubtful to be of any interest outside of Russia. (Former Soviet states that still slavishly follow Moscow included)

could the oval one be seen as rifling? or would it be a sec 1 shotgun??

I wonder how deformed the bullet is by the oval rifling and what effect it has on it BC/accuracy?
