The Parker Hale

#1 Post by Mike95 »

Now well out of fashion...sell for peanuts. I recently bought, as a club gun, a PH M81 Classic with scope and PH mounts in .308....would be used for target....cost a few hundred and the Jap Nikko Platinum scope must be worth £70 at least.
In mint condition with Williams sights, lovely walnut. I was not expecting much but with 16gns of N110 and cheap plated bullets it puts a 10 shot group into half an inch st 50 and just over an inch at 100 yds. What would it do with decent bullets .....
What would it cost to have one of these made today?

These PHs and BSAs have to be some of the best shooting bargains out there.

Fortunately the "must buy new" snobbery and the latest gun fashionistas that most shooters seem to be means that these fine guns remain a bargain for the more intelligent gun owner.

I agree - I have recently bought a PH t4 target rifle and it is very good, I agree with Dromia - thinking mans rifle, well made and versatile with a scope fitted. May not be "tacticool" but can shoot very well.

Club bought a P14 TR conversion with a kreiger 30" TR barrel on it £160, - we stuffed an old 18mm ladder foresight on the front & a 1/4/-1/4 TZ rear sight & it absolutely drills out the bull. A new shooter achieving 50.8 at 1000yds & with MEN 147 grain ammo. It shoots as well as my RPA in 'fashionable metal stock' thing.

We have asked a smith to do the same to another using a Pt worn TR barrel - lets see how that performs. These guns soak up all the club novice, guest & new shooter training wear & protect the clubs Paramount's.
Quality control of Scottish Ethanol. & RDX/HMX

& my fav chemical is :-) 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.......... used to kill frogs.... but widely consumed & in vast quantities by the French? Eh?

Same goes for the Musgrave, another "improved" Mauser action, and occasionally turning up in single-shot form.
I have one in 6BR.
