The Lee Speed - Another SOWR

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I am pleased with this one, a Lee Speed No 2 Pattern .303 Sporter sitting below a later BSA No1 Mk3 .303 Sporter. I seem to have a thing for SOWR Sporters and this one fills a space in the Armoury rather well :)

Lovely guns. I was really impressed by their balance and handling when I fondled one. I can see that they would have been ideal in the colonies to carry where dangerous critters abound. Fairly stout recoil though I would think.

Shot offhand the recoil is really quite tolerable, shot prone or seated it is a tad more punchy. I will shoot the Lee Speed with cast bullets at around 1700fps so it should be a delight and very manageable.

Oooo very nice. I seem to remember when I first visited my relatives in Canada in 1979, my uncles hunting rifle was a sporterized Lee. Wish I could find a photo.
