This maybe a stupid question but do you need an FAC to buy powder? My friend with a S/G cert passes a shop every day and whilst it's not far from me, it would save me a 2 and a bit hour round trip to pick up some powder. I know people reload S/G shells so obviously buy powder but I'm needing some n140 and if he can save me the trip that would be great!

I was also thinking about getting one of these powder throwers http://ebay.eu/2nrQBFB , the reviews online seem quite good and it will save me weighing every load. For the record I would still load a sample number say every 5th round, but when I'm loading for 303 to shoot fig 11's I'm thinking it will speed me up.

All though its not a legal requirement they normally ask to see a fire arm certificate.

You could always phone the shop and ask if they would do this
I've never been asked for FAC when buying powder over the last 15yrs so don't think it's an issue, it's not a legal requirement but in this time of raised awareness of terroisum the shop may just ask for proof of reason to purchase for their own piece of mind

I have mixed feelings for my lee perfect powder thrower. some powders it weighs consistently with minimal technique, some it just won't.

If it was me, I would buy the lee auto drum and throw powder on the press. I find mine to be set and forget.

Good point, I'll give them a quote. I;m nearish Kranks but Kirklees powder is £8 less for 140 if their site is to believed so if my mate is passing it makes sense

I use Reloading Solutions and just paid for a couple of canisters of powder which I will collect next week. I was reminded to bring my FAC. Asked if it was now a legal requirement I was told it was. They were quite adamant. Not a problem, but I wonder if they will now check suitability of the powder for calibres possessed as they did recently when I purchased some small pistol primers - checking that .357 used small pistol. Never a problem but it seems different RFD's interpret the law differently.

When I went to Kranks, I asked the same question, they said it wasn't a requirement but they generally look at an FAC (more often than not to get an address)

However in this day and age it may be a way of the supplying RFD to ensure that he is actually selling to a FAC holder and not a would be terrorist looking for bomb material
