Bullet pointing
Bullet pointing
Looking to point
.308 155gr SMK
.308 155gr lapua scenar
6mm 107gr SMK
6mm 105gr Lapua Scenar
I only have a Redding competition seater die for the 6mm. Standard seating die for the .308
What do I need and how much will it all cost.
Would it be 4 different pointing punches?

Re: Bullet pointing
That would be two different sleeves to suit the 30cal and 6mm and you would need a seater die with a sliding inner such as the Redding micrometer or the Forster Ultra micrometer seaters. Price wise the standard systems are here:

You would need to drop as an email for the price of the second sleeve as I do not have it to hand however the Viking is sure to have the details in the workshop :)

Re: Bullet pointing
Thanks, wasn't sure if there were some common components or whether it would be effectively 4 different sets @ £104
Re: Bullet pointing
Nope, you just need to swap the sleeves out, I could make a wild guess at the price however I have been told not to as I am invariably incredibly wrong at such stuff, I just design and machine the things :)

Yogi,
David's pointer certainly works on my 155's. Thoroughly recommend.

Re: Bullet pointing
Hi Yogibear, if you're tweaking 155grain SMK's and Scenars, your obviously shooting target rifle, but have you found that bullet pointing makes a noticeable difference to your group sizes? Bullet pointing and neck turning are activities I have considered for target shooting, but I'm still not convinced about there effectiveness.
Never take good advice, if you think you know better.
Re: Bullet pointing
Bang for buck. BULLET Pointing is best thing you can do.
With the Shooting Shed pointer you will improve BC by 6%
Overall group sizes reduce because you uniform the tip and BC

Re: Bullet pointing
I can't really give a comparison but I used the Shooting Shed bullet pointer on my 185 bergers for round 1 of the GB F Class League this weekend and overall kept the elevation very well in some interesting wind. My first ever League shoot so I was happy.
