The M1900 Mannlicher–Schönauer, how many years...

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

After a wait of who knows how many years I am finally the proud owner of a M1900 Mannlicher–Schönauer chambered in 6,5x54MS (Rimless) This particular one was built by George Gibbs of Bristol & 35 Savile Row London and is the take down model with 100 to 500 yard express sights and a 14-1/8" LOP.

Overall the rifle is in reasonable condition and will be left well alone other than a careful clean where required, the rotary drum magazine is a work of art and looks perfect other than a coating of oil, in fact I am very pleased with the overall condition of the rifle.

My worry was sourcing suitable reloading parts however I have already found a handful of new brass plus enough twice fired to keep going for a long while, reloading dies and some 160 grain round nosed bullets that look very close to original.

Happy days :)

Very nice!

Good to speak to you again - I hadn't realised that your rifle took down in that fashion - could you perhaps post photo's of how the take-down works. Mine while also take down, was the typical Mannlicher-Schönauer quick removable stock with a rotary catch on the trigger guard and pin through the forend.

The Mannlicher-Schönauer magazine is a work of art - it must have been very expensive to produce.

The dies, shellholder and cases will be in the post to you on Friday.

I do like the way the magazine is removed from the underside of the rifle, it is unlocked by depressing a catch on the bottom plate and the rotating counter clockwise and interestingly the holes look to be big enough for a blunt 6,5mm round nosed bullet. In the event of the magazine having to be emptied there is a button on the right hand side of the load port which when pushed dumps the contents of the magazine into your hand.

This is the magazine as removed, it is a work of art and in superb condition, just requiring a wipe over and re-oiling at some point.

Here it is in take down form, remove the front wood, back the front action screw out 2 turns, pull the bolt back and the barrel just unscrews, like it was on put together yesterday.
