I have cast a load of ingots some of them are pure lead some of them are wheel weights.
Like a dummy I have mixed them up I dont have a hardness tester any way I can tell which is which.

The hard ones (wheel weights) ring when you tap them with metal. Pure lead just thuds.

You can make a hardness tester with a vice and a ball bearing.
Clamp the ingot and BB in a vice, then close the vice a bit and measure across the indentation. So long as you turn the vice the same amount on each ingot, mark the vice with a felt tip pen, then the ones with the wider indentation will be the pure lead.
It won't give you the hardness but it will tell you the difference 'tween soft, pure lead and harder, wheel weights.
Pure lead will also scratch easily with a thumb nail, wheel weights less so.
